In het kader van de historie van Pilkington Nederland, spraken we met Laurens Aveskamp, Managing Director bij Pilkington Benelux en Operations Director Downstream Europe. Laurens Aveskamp startte in 1992 zijn loopbaan bij Holst Glas BV, dat toen deel uitmaakte van de Flachglas Groep, een Duits concern. Hij kwam binnen op een cruciaal moment in de vroege jaren ‘90: de glasproductie maakte een tweede run door op isolatieglas, een technologie die sinds de oliecrisis van de jaren '70 steeds belangrijker werd. Hoewel de vraag in het midden van de jaren '80 tijdelijk afnam, zorgden overheidsstimuleringen en een hausse in nieuwbouw en renovatie voor een heropleving.

Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, part of the NSG Group, intends to use green hydrogen at its site and scale its production of low carbon glass from 2027, under pioneering new plans with Grenian Hydrogen.
